Local e-commerce platforms have announced plans ahead of the annual November 11 online shopping festival.

Following a trend started by Chinese e-commerce giants, Taiwanese online shopping platforms have started billing November 11 as “Singles’ Day”. On this day, online shoppers can find discounts and other special offers designed to get people buying.

Momo Com Inc., a local e-commerce company, announced a number of Singles’ Day incentives on Thursday. These include a series of discounts, as well as well as a raffle with a car as the top prize.

The company says it and many fellow e-commerce companies understand the pressure that a sudden flood of purchases can put on their distribution and payment systems. The company says that it has prepared for a rush ahead of time, taking measures like collaborating with 30 banks and mobile payment companies.
