Minister of Justice Tsai Ching-hsiang said there is no timetable for dealing with death penalty cases. He was answering questions from reporters on Tuesday, a week after the premier had made remarks on the death penalty.
On October 25 at the legislature, Premier Su Tseng-chang had said that some criminals were deserving of the death penalty. He mentioned in particular the high profile brutal murder of a little girl nicknamed “little lightbulb” in 2016.
When reporters asked if the premier’s remarks would affect the high profile case, Minister Tsai said that every case would be dealt with on its own schedule. He also said that the courts and other government agencies play a role in deciding each case. Tsai said that each death penalty case is dealt with carefully and judiciously and there is no definite timetable for them.
