Taiwan’s baseball team will face Puerto Rico in a preliminary game of the 2019 WBSC Premier 12 tournament.
The game will be held on Tuesday evening, in Taichung City, central Taiwan. Puerto Rico, along with Japan and Venezuela are Taiwan’s three rivals in the tournament’s preliminary round. In order to qualify for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, Taiwan’s team will need to advance to the next round with a better record than South Korea and Australia.
Pitcher Chiang Shao-Ching, who plays for the Cleveland Indians in America’s Major League Baseball, is set to lead the starting line-up for Tuesday’s game. Chiang said before the game that he is ready and looking forward to the challenge.
