Taiwan’s national baseball team is looking to secure a spot at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics by coming out on top in the Premier12 baseball championship. Twelve nations from four continents will face-off in the championship, with just two of them moving on to the Olympics.
Play ball! The Premier12 baseball championships have kicked off, and the stakes have never been higher. This year, the Premier12 will act as a qualifier for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. Just one team from the Americas and one team from Asia will be eligible to move on to next year’s Olympic Games.
Taiwan’s national baseball team, also known as the Chinese Taipei baseball team, is looking to secure the Asian spot. Chinese Taipei defeated Puerto Rico six-to-one on Tuesday.
However, Taiwan’s baseball players can’t get overconfident. On November 6 they face off against Venezuela, and on November 7 they’ll have to take on long-time rivals Japan. Taiwan needs to win at least one more of these games in order to have any chance of moving onto the next stage.
