Two Taiwanese scholars have come forth and said that China’s recently unveiled package of “26 incentives” meant to lure away Taiwanese talent is tantamount to unification. The Deputy Secretary-General of the Taiwanese Society for International Law Lin Ting-hui says that the 26 incentives are like the “one country, two systems” formula used to govern Hong Kong, but without the “two systems” portion.
Meanwhile, National Taiwan Normal University political science expert, Professor Fan Shih-ping, says that the incentives allow Taiwanese businesses to operate like Chinese businesses, erasing the distinction between the two. Without a distinction, Fan says, Taiwanese businesses become Chinese businesses, meaning Taiwan and China are the same.
