VIDEO: Taichung police warn of scams during online shopping event
November 11 has become one of the worlds biggest shopping days

The Taichung police department has released video reminding online shoppers to be on their guard this November 11. In parts of Asia, November 11 has been dubbed ‘Singles Day’, and has morphed into a multi-billion dollar shopping event. However, with the annual surge in online purchases comes a rise in the number of online scams.

People are warming-up for the upcoming ‘eleven-eleven’ shopping holiday. November 11, also known as ‘Singles Day,’ is among the world’s biggest days for e-commerce. Online retailers are getting ready to offer huge discounts on popular items.

However, Taichung’s police department is reminding shoppers that scammers are also getting ready for the big day. Officials are worried that frenzied online shoppers could end up caught up in a deal they hadn’t bargained for.

Crime prevention official Chou Jie-yi says that those buying health products must make sure their purchases contain only substances that are legal in Taiwan.

Taichung police are also warning that shoppers should only buy high-ticket items from trusted sellers with high ratings and good reviews.
