Vice President Chen Chien-jen says that as Taiwanese businesses bring their overseas operations back home, they are bringing investment and jobs with them.
Chen was speaking Monday during a forum with young leaders from the overseas Taiwanese community. He said investment from returning companies is nearing NT$700 billion (US$23 billion). He also said that returning companies are expected to create 56,000 new jobs in Taiwan.
Chen spoke about the government’s “i-Taiwan Window”, a service set up this year to help overseas Taiwanese people answer questions about coming to Taiwan for work.
Chen also spoke about a string of major international corporations that plan to invest or build research and development centers in Taiwan. He credited these companies’ decision to invest in Taiwan to Taiwan’s pool of skilled workers.
Chen said that leaders in the overseas Taiwanese community share a positive outlook on Taiwan’s future. He said they support its democratic system governed by law and trust in its ability to protect information security.
