Taiwan’s baseball team is back! After an initial loss to Mexico in the opening round of the Premier12 baseball tournament, Taiwan rallied and beat rivals South Korea 7-0 on Tuesday.
The Premier12 tournament serves as a qualifying event for the Olympics next year. With Tuesday’s win, Taiwan still has a shot at appearing in the 2020 Olympic lineup.
Taiwan’s team had a good start in the game. Two consecutive runs batted in, or RBI hits, at the top of the second inning, bringing the score to 2-0. This lead was extended to 3-0 in the fourth inning with an RBI single. In the top of the seventh inning, Taiwan’s team managed to pull off a three-run homerun, bringing the score to 6-0. Finally, Taiwan went on to add another RBI single in the ninth inning, winning them the game.
Taiwan can’t rest on its laurels yet, though. On Friday, the team will face the United States, and on Saturday, it will square up against Australia. Taiwan needs to finish above South Korea and Australia in the Super Round to secure a spot at next year’s Olympics.
