Members of KMT presidential candidate Han Kuo-yu’s campaign team have rejected rumors that Han had benefited from flipping houses.
There has been speculation in recent weeks that Han purchased several houses and then resold them at higher prices. Though this would not be illegal, the rumors have led to questions about Han’s personal assets.
Deputy strategist for Han’s campaign Sun Ta-chien rejected the rumors during a press conference on Friday. Sun showed records of Han’s history of homeownership, and said that Han has only sold houses where he and his family members have actually lived. Sun said that Han has never owned multiple houses at the same time, and that he mostly lost money when selling his houses in the past.
Hsu Shu-hua, another senior member of Han’s campaign team, showed official documents detailing Han’s house trading, saying that all sales were conducted in accordance with the law.
The campaign team members have called on Han’s 2020 rival, President Tsai Ing-wen, to publish details of her assets and house ownership history in the interest of fairness.
