The foreign ministry says that Taiwan fully backs Hong Kongers’ pursuit of democracy and freedom. That was the word from Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Joanne Ou on Thursday.
Ou’s remark comes two days after the US Senate unanimously passed the Hong Kong Human Rights and Democracy Act.
Ou urged China and the Hong Kong government to respond to public expectations and implement the rule of law so that the territory can return to peace, stability, and normality.
Ou said the foreign ministry is deeply concerned about the political and human rights situations in the special administrative region. Ou also said that the government is opposed to the Hong Kong police’s excessive use of force and coercion.
