VIDEO:HK students in Taiwan back democracy movement with political skit

A group of Hong Kong students studying at Taiwan’s National Cheng Kung University have shown their support for the democracy movement back home by performing a political skit on campus.

Last Tuesday, the Chinese University of Hong Kong saw violent clashes between police and student demonstrators.

This week, a group of Hong Kong students studying in Taiwan performed a political skit on campus to show their support for the demonstrators. In the run-up to the performance, the students set about working to attract attention. They put up signs and placards, including one that read “Liberate Hong Kong, the Revolution of Our Times.”

One Hong Kong student involved in the skit urged Taiwan’s people to continue paying attention to the situation in Hong Kong.

Students wore wearing black clothes, reflecting the color that protesters back home have chosen as a symbol of their movement. Some also lay on the floor or knelt with their hands behind their back to protest the Hong Kong police’s brutal use of force.

One protest sign read “Either wear a real mask and protest or wear a fake mask and live as though [nothing is happening].

Another student said she hopes people will spread the word about the injustices Hong Kong’s people are facing.
