The total number of employees on unpaid leave in Taiwan has reached 2,668. That’s because of instabilities in several sectors. The figure is the highest so far this year.
Electronics component wholesalers and solar panel manufacturers have furloughed more than 800 employees so far this month. This brings the total number of workers on unpaid leave in Taiwan up to 2,668, the highest number so far this year.
An analyst from the Taiwan Institute of Economic Research says that Chinese solar panel manufacturers have been producing panels that are more efficient than those made in Taiwan.
Despite this competition, the analyst said that the solar panel sector is undergoing a transition and will become more stable in the near future.
The labor ministry says that while the figure is the highest so far this year, most companies have furloughed fewer than 50 employees. The length of their unpaid leave has so far largely stayed within three months.
