A highway project in southern Taiwan has received an international award for the limited impact it is having on the surrounding environment.
The project received the Global Road Achievement Awards from the International Road Federation. It is the first ever construction project in Taiwan to receive this honor.
The Directorate General of Highways announced the award Thursday. It has detailed a number of measures that were put in place to reduce the project’s environmental impact. These include the extensive planting of greenery before work began, the use of materials with a lower carbon footprint, the use of less material overall, and the use of more efficient equipment.
It said it hopes the award will help highlight Taiwan’s construction prowess on the global stage.
