State-run power company Taipower says that a deadline for reducing the amount of coal it uses at the Taichung Power Plant will disrupt Taiwan’s power supply.
The plant’s current operation permit requires Taipower to reduce the amount of coal it burns there by 40%. But there has been disagreement over the time frame for this reduction. Taipower says it has until the end of 2020 to make the cut. But the Taichung City Government says the paperwork for the permit contained errors, and that the company only has until January 26 to comply.
Taipower says that making such an abrupt cut will impact the power supply not just for consumers in the Taichung area, but across Taiwan.
