Vice President Chen Chien-jen says Taiwanese enterprises’ work to achieve sustainable development is making a mark in the world. Chen was speaking Thursday at the Taiwan Corporate Sustainability Awards held by the Taiwan Institute for Sustainable Energy.
Chen praised the works of the companies represented at the event towards making the world see that Taiwan is a responsible promoter of sustainability. He said that’s despite Taiwan’s limited resources and heavy reliance on imports.
Chen said Taiwan has a goal of meeting 20 percent of the country’s total energy needs from renewable energy sources by 2025. He said offshore wind power and solar energy will be the core of this transformation effort. He said Taiwan will eventually scrap the use of nuclear power, but that companies will not have to worry about power shortages. He also said Taiwan will work towards meeting the Global Sustainable Development Goals.
