Two stretches of Provincial Highway 61 have been voted the most scenic roads in Taiwan in a transportation ministry poll.
Over 214,000 people voted on the online poll, which concluded last Sunday. The stretch of the highway passing by Miaoli County’s Tongxiao Township got the most votes, largely thanks to the sunset views it has to offer. Coming in at second place was a section of the same highway further to the north, in Taoyuan’s Yongan Fishing Harbor.
Though these two stretches of highway sit on Taiwan’s west coast, highways in other regions did well in the poll, too. Highways in eastern and central Taiwan as well as on offshore islands also made the final list of Taiwan’s most beautiful roads.
A transportation ministry official says that the ministry is planning to extend Taiwan’s highway network, hopefully offering travelers even more memorable views.
