Wang is a Chinese defector to Australia and a self-proclaimed former spy. He says that he was hired by China to interfere in Taiwan’s election.
The bureau says that the report is fake news, and that none of its personnel is stationed in Australia. The bureau says that it has only been able to receive information about Wang’s case from friendly nations.
However, the justice ministry says that Taiwanese prosecutors have launched investigation into Wang’s case. According to the ministry, these prosecutors have asked Australia for mutual legal assistance. The ministry says it hopes the Australian authorities will provide information concerning the case.
