A deadly tailgating accident took place early Tuesday morning, leaving two dead and causing major congestion on National No. 1 Highway.
A cargo truck hit another vehicle from behind at close to 4 am while heading north on the highway through Taoyuan in northern Taiwan. The truck caught fire after the collision, killing the driver’s wife and daughter who were trapped in the cabin. The driver went through the window and was later hospitalized.
No one in the other vehicle was injured. The police are investigating the cause of the accident.
The police closed down two of the four lanes after the accident. The limited traffic capacity caused a major traffic jam on the highway, with vehicles backed up for 17 kilometers behind the site of the collision.
