President Tsai Ing-wen has urged the public not to forget their responsibility to safeguard democracy. Tsai was speaking Tuesday at a ceremony for the Asia Democracy and Human Rights Award.
The award has been sponsored by the Taiwan Foundation for Democracy since 2006.
Tsai said supporting democracy is the conviction of the Taiwanese people at a time when many regional countries and areas have yet to become democratic and there are people whose pursuit of freedom, democracy and human rights are suppressed by despotic regimes.
