Japan is a big source of tourism for Taiwan. The number of Japanese visitors this year has already broken two million.
The two millionth Japanese visitor of the year was Mizoguchi Ayako of Miyazaki Prefecture. She was accompanied by four family members. It was the 27-year-old’s first visit to Taiwan. She said she looks forward to visiting Longshan Temple and other popular sites.
The Tourism Bureau says the main reason Japanese people like Taiwan is because of the many similarities between the two countries. They think that Taiwan is safe and that Taiwan’s people are friendly.
Besides Longshan Temple, Japanese tourists also like to visit the Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall, the Presidential Office Building, and Taipei 101. In terms of cuisine, Japanese are especially attracted to Taiwan’s pearl milk tea and steamed soup dumplings.
