An assessment of Taiwan’s carbon reduction efforts by a German NGO has drawn mixed reactions from Taiwanese officials and environmental groups.
The German NGO recently ranked 62 countries and regions in terms of how effective they have been at cutting carbon emissions. Taiwan was placed third from the bottom
Officials at Taiwan’s Environmental Protection Administration said Wednesday that the ranking was conducted in a subjective manner, and did not take Taiwan’s efforts fully into consideration.
Meanwhile on Wednesday, several local environmental groups held a press conference calling on the government to implement more effective carbon reduction policies. The representatives said that while the German NGO’s rankings were limited in its scope, they do point out some of the shortcomings in Taiwan’s environmental strategies.
