Taiwanese performing group One Song Orchestra is set to hold a New Year’s Day concert at the National Concert Hall. This is the first time that the orchestra will be performing at the venue.
One Song Orchestra is a group founded in 2017 with a focus on Taiwan. It performs music written by Taiwanese composers as well as pieces that features Taiwanese elements.
On New Year’s Day, the orchestra will perform a program including music from Taiwan’s indigenous Paiwan people. A singer from the southern county of Pingtung will sing songs of prayer and songs about get-togethers. Taiwan’s leading Peking opera performer, Huang Yu-ling, will be part of the show, too. And Taiwanese opera singer Tang Mei-yun will be there to perform some traditional music.
The orchestra’s music director, Lee Che-yi, says he hopes that the upcoming concert will make Taiwanese people proud of their own music and their own culture. Lee says the orchestra is planning to invite world-class musicians to play this Taiwanese music.
