A delegation from Taiwan’s Environmental Protection Administration has held dialogue with representatives of other countries on the sidelines of a climate change conference in Spain.

Taiwan was barred from formally attending the conference due to pressure from China. However, the administration’s head, Chang Tzi-chin, told Taiwan’s Central News Agency Thursday that in addition to meeting with representatives from Taiwan’s allies, he also met with representatives from the EU, the UK, Sweden, and Germany. He says these countries respect Taiwan’s efforts to deal with climate change.

Chang also addressed Taiwan’s poor performance in a German NGO’s recent ranking of countries by how effectively they are cutting carbon emissions. Taiwan was third from last. Chang says that Taiwan still has room to improve.
