The United States and Paraguay say they intend to use Taiwanese technical assistance in a project to build a medical center in the Paraguayan capital, Asuncion.

Paraguay is Taiwan’s sole diplomatic ally in South America.

Taiwan's foreign ministry welcomes the plan, saying that it will further the well-being of Paraguay’s people.

The project is the latest example of Taiwanese assistance to Paraguay. Taiwan also works to further the country’s economic development, purchasing its agricultural products and helping develop aquaculture and orchid cultivation in Paraguay.

Taiwan's foreign ministry says that Taiwan and Paraguay share the values of freedom, democracy, and human rights. The ministry says Taiwan and Paraguay have also long enjoyed cooperation in the fields of basic infrastructure, public health, humanitarian aid, medicine, education, technology, agricultural techniques, and small and medium enterprises.
