The pro league baseball team formerly known as the Lamigo Monkeys is set to get a new name.
Japanese business conglomerate Rakuten Inc. purchased the team early in September after the previous owner’s financial issues led them to put the team up for sale.
Rakuten CEO Hiroshi Mikitani said at a press conference on Wednesday that the team will be named the Rakuten Monkeys, and that general manager Justin Liu will remain on his post.
As per the handover agreement, the team will remain in Taoyuan. However, the team’s management is looking to bring in the management experience of teams in Japan’s pro league.
