Vice President Chen Chien-jen is set to visit Palau to mark the 20th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two sides. That’s the word from Deputy Foreign Minister Hsu Szu-chien on Thursday.

The vice president and his wife will visit the Western Pacific island country on December 28 and stay for three days.

Taiwan and Palau established formal diplomatic relations on December 29, 1999. To demonstrate Taiwan’s value of the friendship between the two sides, President Tsai Ing-wen has appointed Chen as her envoy.

During his visit, the vice president will meet with President Thomas Remengesau, Jr. and other top government officials to exchange views on issues of mutual concern.

Besides attending celebratory activities, the vice president will also inspect the results of Taiwan’s assistance to Palau in the fields of agriculture and animal husbandry.
