Weightlifter Kuo Hsing-chun and gymnast Lee Chih-kai were named the best female and male athlete, respectively, at the 2019 Sports Elite Awards. Both have had an outstanding year in terms of athletic achievement.
Weightlifter Kuo Hsing-chun opens an envelope and unveils her own name. She’s just presented herself with the Best Female Athlete award at the 2019 Sports Elite Awards. Kuo is one of the most decorated weightlifters in Taiwan, with several world records under her belt. Her outstanding performance at competitions throughout 2019 further solidified her status.
In April, she won three gold medals at the 2019 Asian Weightlifting Championships in China, qualifying her for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.
Winner of Best Male Athlete this year went to gymnast Lee Chih-kai. In July, Lee won a gold medal in pommel horse at the 2019 Summer Universiade in Naples, Italy…A repeat of his win at the 2017 Taipei Universiade. In October, Lee took silver at the 2019 World Artistic Gymnastics Championships.
Awards for outstanding teams and coaches representing Taiwan were also presented at the awards ceremony.
