Senior citizen Chen Hsiu-fong has been cleaning up a beach in the northeastern county of Yilan every day for six years. Her dedication has touched many people and encouraged other locals to get involved too.
Meet Chen Hsiu-fong. Chen loves taking pictures of the beautiful sunrise on the beach in Yilan County. But taking photos is not her goal. She is there to clean up litter.
This retiree, who is now in her 80s, has been picking up litter here for six years now. Weather permitting, she goes to the beach at dawn and at dusk almost every day.
Sometimes Chen’s daughter-in-law helps her pick up garbage. 0035 She says that because there is so much trash, it’s a hard job. 0039 But Chen calls it a work-out.
Chen’s good deeds have inspired many over the years. Now more and more other people volunteer to clean up the beach, too.
