Taiwan should seek to secure the United States and Japan as its top two export markets in 2020. That was the word from senior external trade official Chiu Hui-li.
Chiu was speaking Tuesday at an economics ministry briefing. He said that the ongoing U.S.-China trade war has affected both countries’ export volume. Chiu said the United States has reduced its imports from China by more than US$60 billion and is looking for alternative countries to import from. Chiu said Taiwan should take advantage of this opportunity in the upcoming year.
Chiu also points out that Japan has increased its imports of Taiwanese semiconductors and mechanical equipment in 2019. He said Taiwan should continue to expand its exports to Japan in 2020.
