Taipei Mayor Ko Wen-je said Wednesday that he would rather do actual work for the city than spend time promoting his achievements in order to please the public.
The mayor’s words came in response to his slumping support figures in a recent poll. Ko said Taipei has improved more than other cities in Taiwan during his tenure. He also said he decided to remain in Taipei instead of running for president, in order to ensure that the city’s many ongoing construction projects will not be disrupted.
Ko said that the public will see the fruits of his labor at some point because he has always preferred to work rather than just brag about his achievements. The mayor also spoke about his dedication to his work, saying that he probably spends more time doing serious work in one day than most people spend in a week.
