The Food and Drug Administration has announced their plans for ensuring food safety ahead of the Lunar New Year holiday in late January.

The Lunar New Year is less than a month away. For people throughout the Chinese speaking world, it’s a time to feast with friends and family. Rising demand makes it one of the busiest times of the year for the food industry.

In an effort to ensure food safety and quality, Taiwan’s Food and Drug Administration (FDA) on Wednesday outlined a comprehensive plan for food inspections. Inspectors will test everything from raw meat and vegetables, to fruits and snacks.

The inspections will target a variety of locations where foods are processed, sold and served. That includes processing plants, hotels, restaurants and supermarkets. The FDA says it will also make sure that proper sanitary procedures are followed in the handling the foods.

FDA officials say that more and more people are purchasing food via the internet, so inspections will also cover products sold online.
