The Taiwan Fund for Children and Families, a local NGO that focuses on children’s welfare, is calling on the IT sector to help provide computers and internet resources to children in need.
The NGO on Thursday presented the results of their latest survey on children from poor families. The figures show that 65% of those children don’t have access to either computers or the internet.
The respondents also said their top goals if they have access to computers include: searching for information on the internet, editing documents, and learning to use professional software.
The NGO said that access to computers and digital resources is crucial because it helps people develop the skills needed for many jobs. The organization isn’t just looking for donations of computers. It’s also urging seeking help in providing the children with access to the internet and basic computer skills.
