Taiwan is planning to hold five trade fairs in South and Southeast Asia next year to promote trade exchanges. That’s the word from Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA) Chairman James Huang on Thursday.
The trade fairs will be held in Mumbai, Ho Chi Minh City, Kuala Lumpur, Bangkok, and the Indonesian city of Bandung.
With no end in sight for the US-China trade war, Huang said Taiwanese businesses must find manufacturing bases, partners and suppliers in Southeast Asia. He also urged Taiwan’s business sector to expand distribution channels and strengthen brand marketing, two areas in need of improvement.
Huang also said TAITRA will put its top priority on Vietnam in 2020, in keeping with the Taiwan government’s New Southbound policy.
The New Southbound policy seeks closer trade and cultural ties with countries in South and Southeast Asia, Australia, and New Zealand.
