The number of overseas travelers to Taiwan reached a new high in 2019. A total of 11.84 million overseas visitors entered the country. That’s up 7% when compared to the previous year.
Tourism Bureau figures show that visitors from China totaled 2.71 million people in 2019, up 0.5% from 2018. But visitors from other countries increased by 8% year-on-year, totaling nearly 9.14 million people.
Annual visitors from Japan surpassed two million people for the first time in December of last year. Travelers from South Korea also grew by nearly 20%. Visitors from countries targeted by the New Southbound Policy grew by 6%. Those countries are largely in South and Southeast Asia, as well as Australia and New Zealand.
