CDC raises travel advisory for Wuhan amid pneumonia outbreak
The Centers for Disease Control is advising against travel to the Chinese city of Wuhan, where an outbreak of pneumonia continues.

The Centers for Disease Control has raised its travel advisory for the Chinese city of Wuhan to the highest level on its travel alert scale. That’s as an outbreak of pneumonia continues to hit the city.

The ministry is discouraging all travel to Wuhan and is urging Taiwanese people in the area to stay away from animals.

As of Sunday morning, the outbreak had sickened 59 people, with seven of those in serious condition. The cause of the outbreak remains unclear, but it is not influenza, bird flu, adenovirus, SARS, or MERS. There have not yet been any cases of transmission between people, and because a number of those affected by the illness worked in a marketplace with fish and livestock, transmission from animals seems likely.

In addition to raising the level of its travel warning, the Centers for Disease Control is also screening airline passengers and asking China to allow Taiwanese experts to go investigate the disease.
