The defense ministry has announced that it will hold a public memorial ceremony to pay respect to the military personnel killed in a recent helicopter crash.
A Black Hawk helicopter crashed last Thursday morning in New Taipei while carrying out a routine pre-Lunar New Year inspection. Five of those on board survived the accident, while the other eight were killed. Among the dead is Chief of General Staff Shen Yi-ming.
The defense ministry says the memorial ceremony will take place on January 14 at northern Taiwan’s Songshan Airbase. The ministry says it will honor the deceased by placing Taiwan’s flag on their caskets, awarding posthumous medals, and arranging a flyover by fighter jets.
