Tai Tzu-ying, Taiwan’s top female badminton player, has advanced to the next round of the 2020 Malaysia Masters badminton tournament.
Tai faced off against Chinese player Zhang Yiman on Wednesday evening. Tai won two straight matches- 21 to 14 and 21 to 10 respectively.
Tai is now scheduled to play South Korean Sung Ji-hyun in the next round on Thursday. Sung is a familiar opponent for, Tai as the two have previously faced off several times.
Tai had ranked as the world’s top female player for years until she was knocked from the number one spot late last year. In a recent social media post, Tai said that regaining the top spot is not her priority.
