Major media outlets from across the political spectrum are projecting that President Tsai Ing-wen has a strong lead as vote counting continues.
Just before 7:00 pm, Sanlih E-Television, Formosa Television, Next TV, TVBS, and EBC all showed Tsai over a million votes ahead of main challenger Han Kuo-yu.
A festive atmosphere has taken hold at Tsai’s campaign headquarters, where Tsai is expected to arrive at 7:00 pm. She and running mate William Lai will hold an international press conference around an hour later.
