VIDEO: Purveyors offer advice on buying Lunar New Year goods
Scallops are a huge hit during the Lunar New Year!

The Lunar New Year is just around the corner. People in Taiwan are rushing to traditional markets to buy favorite holiday foods. With so many things to buy, market purveyors have some tips on how to choose the best merchandise.

Pistachios, peanuts, mushrooms, mullet roe, and dried scallops are traditional items eaten over the Lunar New Year. With the holiday just around the corner, consumers are scurrying to the markets to stock up.

One purveyor of such goods tells us that pistachios should have a bright green color and should be bought in-shell. They should be easy to open, otherwise they’ll be smaller and more bitter.

For peanuts, on the other hand, the ones with a nice white color will have the best flavor.

This purveyor tells us that consumers should buy mushrooms from Taiwan. They should be bright in color and give off a pleasant aroma. Any other mushroom is not worth buying.

Mullet roe is another holiday favorite. Under the sun, mullet roe should give off a bright orange, semi-translucent tint.

Dried scallops should not only smell good, but also look and feel nice too. Follow these steps when buying holiday goods and you’ll be a-okay.
