President Tsai Ing-wen took to social media on Monday to thank other countries for their congratulatory messages upon her re-election. Tsai said that freedom and democracy are Taiwan’s two greatest assets. She said that they are also the basis of Taiwan’s relationships with its global partners.
Tsai said that she expects stronger relations between Taiwan and the United States in the next three years. She says she hopes that Taiwan and the US will partner in areas like regional security, high-tech industry supply chains, and democratic defense mechanisms.
Tsai also said that ties with Japan have continued to strengthen as well, particularly in the areas of tourism and diplomacy. The president said that she hopes Taiwan and Japan can continue to cooperate in the areas of trade and culture.
