The economics ministry says that the conclusion of an initial US-China trade agreement will have little impact on Taiwan.
China has promised that it will amend its laws on the protection of intellectual property rights. However, Taiwan’s economics ministry says that it could take some time for Beijing to make the necessary changes.
The ministry believes that the US and China will not be moving on to the second phase of the agreement any time soon. Therefore the ministry said that the US-China trade deal will not affect Taiwan’s industries in its present stage.
Meanwhile, the National Development Council says that the government will continue to follow the development of US-China trade ties closely, as the regulations on technology transfer in the agreement could affect Taiwan’s exports.
