The foreign ministry has lodged a strong protest against China’s blatant disregard for Taiwan’s independent sovereignty and the Taiwanese people’s right to health. That’s the word from Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Joanne Ou on Tuesday.

Ou accused China of misleading the world by calling Taiwan part of its territory and saying Taiwan is included in its epidemic prevention system.

Ou said China’s attitudes are tantamount to “political blackmail.” She said Taiwan and China are two separate political entities, adding that the latest outbreak has posed a grave threat to the 23 million people living in Taiwan. Ou also criticized China for barring Taiwan from participating in international organizations such as the WHO, based on its so-called “one China” principle.

The spokeswoman urged the international community to recognize the ‘wicked nature” of the Chinese government and its attempts to annex the island. She also demanded that all international organizations, including the WHO, remain impartial and uphold professional standards.

Meanwhile, the health ministry has asked the WHO to correct its report on the outbreak. It said that instead of 13 confirmed cases of infections, Taiwan has only 10 cases. It is also incorrect to list Taiwan as “Taipei, China.”
