The ongoing coronavirus outbreak has affected many activities in Taiwan. The latest event that could be canceled due to fear of the virus spreading is the Tainan Half Marathon.

The Tainan Half Marathon is a popular annual running event held in Tainan, in southern Taiwan. This year, a total of 298 runners from 29 countries around the world have signed up for the upcoming run, scheduled on March 1.

However, the event might not take place at all due to concerns over the ongoing coronavirus outbreak centered in China. So far, nine Taiwanese residents have contracted the virus, and a few hundred were found to have come in contact with them.

Tainan Education Bureau Director Cheng Hsin-hui said the city is in discussion with the host company regarding plans for the event. Cheng said they will announce the final decision in mid-February.
