The upcoming 2020 Taiwan Lantern Festival will kick off with a light show by 800 drones, a record-setting number.
The festival is set to begin on February 8 in Taichung, central Taiwan. Director of the city’s Tourism and Travel Bureau, Lin Hsiao-chi, said Tuesday that drones will form 2D and 3D patterns to present some of the city’s famous locations and cultural symbols. These including patterns for the famous Houli Horse Ranch, the Old Mountain Line and the Taichung Park Pavilion.
The bureau said that drone shows are highly dependent on stable weather conditions. The shows will be delayed or canceled if the venue is hit with rains or strong wind.
The bureau also said the Lantern Festival will also feature romance-themed performances and displays on St.Valentine’s Day on February 14.
The 2020 Taiwan Lantern Festival is set to run from February 8 through February 23.
