The pineapples from Pingtung County are shipping to China as usual. The exports have not been affected by the ongoing coronavirus outbreak in the city of Wuhan. That was the word from officials of the Agriculture and Food Agency on Tuesday.
The southern branch of the Agriculture and Food Agency said that the first batch of pineapples produced in Pingtung has been shipped to China’s Xiamen City as planned. The agency said fruit exports to China will be more stable once it finds a transportation method that ensures food safety.
The ongoing virus outbreak has slowed and halted cross-strait exchanges in many areas, most notably the tourism sector since the number of cross-strait flights have been drastically reduced.
