The foreign ministry has reiterated its calls for the WHO to include Taiwan in its meetings, mechanisms, and events.
The call comes as the WHO holds its 146th Executive Board session and as a global outbreak of novel coronavirus continues to expand.
On Friday, the foreign ministry said that international support for Taiwan’s participation in the WHO is growing and being heard from officials at higher levels than before.
In the past few days, both Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau have indicated their support for Taiwan’s inclusion. So, too, have officials from both the US and the EU.
Support has been forthcoming from eight of Taiwan’s diplomatic allies, as well as from the UK, Belgium, Australia, and New Zealand. Germany has also voiced support on behalf of its fellow EU members.
The foreign ministry is calling on the WHO to listen to these voices of support from the international community and to resist political pressure to keep excluding Taiwan.
