Members of the US House of Representatives have told the ICAO that its exclusion of Taiwan threatens the fight against the novel coronavirus. The ICAO is the International Civil Aviation Organization, which oversees aviation standards and practices.
The US Congress members stated their opposition to the ICAO’s blocking of Taiwanese social media accounts. They also said that Taiwan has the world’s eleventh-busiest airport. They said that work to contain the coronavirus outbreak shows why it is important to include Taiwan in the sharing of information.
The lawmakers stressed that the health and safety of Taiwan’s 23 million citizens is at stake. They warned the ICAO to be objective in its policies and not to politicize the situation.
