This year’s Taiwan Lantern Festival will kick off in Taichung on Saturday. Though visitors can still enjoy traditional lanterns, this year’s event will also feature non-traditional elements that use modern technology.
Also different this year will be a requirement that attendees wear surgical masks to prevent the spread of coronavirus.
This year’s Taiwan Lantern Festival has a special feature: an entire section dedicated not to lanterns but to a light show. The centerpiece of this section will be a nine-meter tall, 360 degree screen where the light show will be projected. The show will highlight the history of Taichung, the central Taiwan city hosting this year’s festival.
The light show has been designed by a professional team from Singapore. The show’s being advertised as a mind-blowing experience, with lights and sounds combining in a multimedia extravaganza.
This year, lantern festival organizers have decided that visitors must wear protective surgical masks. The goal of this requirement is to prevent any more cases of novel coronavirus. In addition, organizers will only allow 500 visitors at a time in the light show area.
