The first group of Taiwanese who returned from the Chinese city of Wuhan has been released from quarantine. The COVID-19 outbreak originated in Wuhan and has killed more than 1,800 people and infected over 73,000, mostly in China.
Of the 247 Taiwanese passengers who were on board the first charter flight on February 3, 242 were released from makeshift quarantine centers Tuesday morning.
It’s still dark at around 6:00 am on Tuesday. Those returning from Wuhan were quarantined for two weeks and were finally released. They stood in line to have their temperatures taken before leaving a temporary quarantine center in northern Taiwan.
One Taiwanese praised the government for doing a good job, including providing food, accommodations and services. Another said, “What a relief!”
To be able to go home and remain in good health is indeed a relief. Before the bus left the quarantine center, a health care worker reminded them to continue to take precautions, such as wearing a mask and staying away from public spaces. After all, it's better to be safe than sorry.
