A fire that broke out in Taoyuan, northern Taiwan, has polluted the local air quality. That’s according to staff from the city’s Department of Environmental Protection.
The fire took place on Tuesday afternoon at a factory plant in Taoyuan City’s Guishan District. The firefighters managed to put out the fire at around 11 pm.
Staff members of the city’s environmental protection department detected a significant rise in the density of harmful particulate matters and a strong smell in the air around the fire. They said the increase constitutes a violation of the Air Pollution Control Act and the party responsible will face fines of between NT$100,000 and NT$5 million (US$3,300 and 166,000).
